Pressure Ulcers

At Jovive Wound Care, our team of board-certified experts focuses on delivering advanced healthcare solutions for persistent wounds such as Pressure Ulcers.

What are Pressure Ulcers?

Pressure ulcers, often referred to as bedsores. These are skin injuries caused by prolonged pressure on specific areas of the body, leading to damage to both the skin and the underlying tissues. Typically occurring in regions where bones are close to the skin’s surface, such as the ankles, hips, tailbone, and heels. You might also hear them referred to as pressure injuries or decubitus ulcers.

What to look for

Pressure ulcers, characterized by varying stages based on depth and severity, result from pressure limiting skin blood flow. Three main causes are pressure, friction, or shear. Symptoms include skin color or texture changes, swelling, pus-like drainage, sore areas, and temperature differences in the affected skin.

Wheelchair-bound individuals are prone to sores on the buttocks, tailbone, shoulder blades, spine, and back of arms or legs. Bed-bound individuals commonly develop sores on the back or side of the head, shoulder blades, hip, lower back, heels, ankles, and skin behind the knees.

Early detection and preventative measures are crucial for managing and avoiding these debilitating wounds. If you’re concerned about an open wound, it’s essential to reach out to Jovive Wound Care promptly for assistance.
