At Jovive Wound Care, we believe that healing takes a team. Every patient’s recovery is supported by skilled clinicians who not only treat wounds but also restore hope along the way.
One of the most important parts of that team is our Advanced Providers, including clinicians like Laura Houck, PA, at our Loma Linda clinic. Laura works closely with patients each week to track healing, make treatment adjustments, and ensure that every person receives personalized, consistent care.
A Passion for Healing
Laura’s path to wound care began unexpectedly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she was asked to help patients who couldn’t safely visit clinics.
“Stepping into that role opened my eyes,” Laura shared. “These patients often had complex wounds and few options for care. Over time, I developed a deep understanding of what progress really looks like — not just smaller wounds, but greater independence and confidence.”
That experience changed the direction of her career. She discovered how meaningful it was to see patients return week after week, slowly regaining strength and mobility.
A Care Model Built on Trust and Teamwork
At Jovive Wound Care, every new patient first meets with a physician. From there, care continues with an Advanced Provider who manages weekly visits, monitors progress, and adjusts treatment as needed.
“I have the autonomy to make changes as a wound heals or if something doesn’t look right,” Laura explained. “But our physicians are always available to collaborate. It’s a true partnership.”
This model gives patients the best of both worlds — expert medical oversight and consistent, hands-on care from a provider who truly knows them.
“Patients can feel that team approach,” Laura added. “They see how we work together, and it builds trust.”
Changing Expectations About Wound Care
Many new patients expect to see only a doctor, but Laura says those expectations quickly change once they experience the team-based model.
“There’s a common misconception that only a doctor can provide high-quality care,” she said. “But Advanced Providers are deeply involved in every part of the healing process. Once patients see how we work together, they realize they have a whole team supporting them.”
This approach also helps patients access care faster, avoid unnecessary hospital visits, and stay on track with their treatment — all while keeping care affordable and effective.
Restoring Hope, One Visit at a Time
For Laura, the most rewarding part of her work is watching transformation happen — both physically and emotionally.
She recalls one patient whose wound wasn’t healing as expected, even though all test results looked normal. “I could tell something was missing,” she said. “After consulting with one of our physicians, we ordered additional tests and found a blocked artery. Once it was treated, his wound finally healed.”
Moments like that remind her why experience and teamwork matter so much.
“After seeing so many complex wounds, you develop an eye for the small details,” Laura said. “Recognizing when something isn’t improving — and knowing why — can make all the difference.”
She added, “Many of our patients come in feeling hopeless. But when they start to see progress — even small changes — that hope comes back. Watching someone go from using a wheelchair to walking again on their own is the best part of my job.”
Building the Future of Wound Care
As wound care continues to evolve, Advanced Providers will play an even greater role in helping patients heal. At Jovive Wound Care, this team-based approach is already showing that collaboration leads to better outcomes, stronger relationships, and renewed hope.
“Our patients can feel the difference,” Laura said. “They know they’re not alone — that they have an entire team cheering them on.”
At Jovive Wound Care, we are committed to making healing more accessible, more coordinated, and more human — one patient at a time.
