In January 2024, 63-year-old Frederick Garcia, a sports enthusiast and traffic manager, faced a significant health challenge. He had been dealing with a recurring wound on his lower left leg, a venous stasis ulcer, exacerbated by diabetes and hypertension. Determined to reclaim his health, Frederick sought professional help at Jovive Wound Care.

Referred to Jovive Wound Care by his primary care doctor, Frederick’s met Laura Houck, PA, a dedicated Physician Assistant (PA), and Evan Houck, MD who became a crucial part of his care team and recovery. The supportive environment provided Frederick with the motivation he needed to heal and start the journey of taking back his life.

Laura Houck and her team developed a tailored treatment plan that included regular dressing changes, compression therapy, and frequent debridements. Frederick diligently followed all instructions and attended every appointment. Laura also encouraged lifestyle changes, such as adopting a healthier diet and incorporating regular exercise into his routine.

Frederick’s commitment to his health yielded remarkable results. Over four months, his wound gradually healed. The combination of compression therapy, regular debridements, and lifestyle changes, including weight loss and improved blood sugar levels, facilitated significant progress. By April 2024, Frederick’s venous stasis ulcer was fully healed.

Throughout his journey, Frederick remained positive and determined. He was motivated by the prospect of returning to his favorite activities, like playing golf. His transformation still ongoing is not just physical but also a profound change in mindset and lifestyle.

Reflecting on his journey, Frederick expressed immense gratitude for the care he received at Jovive Wound Care. “Listen to the doctors,” he advises. “The people caring for you there actually do care about you as a person.” Frederick’s appreciation for the team’s dedication is clear. “To me, it didn’t seem like I was just going into a facility. They were taking care of me, pushing me to get better. It was a joy to go there every morning and say, ‘OK, I’m here for my wound care, let’s get my day started.'”

Today, Frederick enjoys every moment spent with his grandkids and looks forward to playing golf again. While he hasn’t played a full round yet, he takes pride in hitting balls at the driving range, working towards getting back into golf shape.
